Oman is a wonderous country full of fascinating geographical features, rich cultural heritage and a wealth of history.

This module is designed to immerse Key Stage 2 pupils (ages 7–11) in the unique landscapes, biodiversity, and sustainable practices of Oman as well as exploring how its geography helped develop the country’s role in ancient trade routes.

This module offers a range of engaging lessons that develop geographical skills, deepen understanding of sustainability, gain understanding of the country’s ecosystems and offer fieldwork opportunities (virtual and/or in person) to enhance understanding of Oman.

Within this module, you will find the following topics:

  • Nimr Reed Beds
  • Formation and impact of tourism of one of the pink lakes in Oman
  • Unicorns of the desert – the Arabian Oryx
  • Location, features and importance of trade of the Wādī Darbāt and Khor Ruri

Locate the world’s countries, using maps…concentrating on their environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics…

Use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied.

Physical geography, including: physical geography, including: climate zones, biomes and vegetation belts, rivers, mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, and the water cycle.

Human geography, including: types of settlement and land use, economic activity including trade links, and the distribution of natural resources including energy, food, minerals and water.

Use fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.
