If you are interested specifically on topics closely related to Geography and the research expertise of the geography department, they can offer the following:

  • A number of different workshops/activities on climate change impacts and adaptations, including work on tipping points and the carbon cycle. These are tailored to fit several of the key topics at A-level, for example ‘Water and Carbon Cycles’, ‘Hazards’ and ‘Ecosystems under stress’. There are both physical and human geographers that deal with this issue, so they can also address both population and environment topics.
  • Activities and workshops focused on the A-level topic ‘Coastal systems and landscapes’ using work undertaken by colleagues in the local area.
  • The department is extremely strong on migration geographies so can offer workshops on diaspora, migration, refugees, transnational communities which connect to ‘Changing places’, ‘Contemporary urban environments’ and ‘Population and environment’ A-level topics.
  • The department also has a key research strength in sustainable development with activities that connect to the ‘Population and environment’ and ‘Global systems and global governance’ topics.

Open days

Led by Sussex students and graduates, University of Sussex campus visits are a great way to find out what it's like to study at university. They'll take your group round their campus, learning resources and facilities. The visit can also include higher education talks and masterclasses. Most visits take place between 10am and 2pm. Your students can bring lunch, buy food from one of the cafés or you can pre-order lunch vouchers. Book your visit

Alternatively you can find out more about open day dates using our Directory of Open Days or from the University of Sussex website.

Summer schools

The University of Sussex runs the Sussex Inspires programme aimed at improving access to higher education.
