Radical Geography Research Group

The RGS-IBG Radical Geography Research Group (RadGeo) would like to invite expressions of interest for sponsored sessions for the RGS-IBG 2025 Annual Conference, which will take place in Birmingham from Tuesday 26 August to Friday 29 August 2025. The theme for the 2025 Annual Conference, chaired by Professor Patricia Noxolo, is Geographies of creativity/creative geographies.

RadGeo invites proposals for sessions or existing CFPs that will be sponsored by the Research Group. Session sponsorship means that a session is branded in the conference programme with the Research Group’s name, and gives the opportunity to promote the session through our Research Group networks. We invite proposals for session sponsorship that engage with the Chair’s theme, as well as others focusing on all areas of Radical Geography.

We advance a broad view of Radical Geography, including research which identifies the patterning, causation and lived experiences of social inequalities, injustice and oppression.

These can be, but are by no means limited to, issues of:

  • Poverty and wealth
  • Health and well-being (physical, mental, psychological and emotional)
  • Living conditions, housing and other material environments
  • Crime and criminal justice
  • Spatial politics
  • Social identities, inclusion and exclusion
  • Migration
  • Environmental justice
  • Risk and public perception
  • Citizenship
  • Social policy critique and development
  • Social and community development
  • Social movements, social action, resistance and resilience

We welcome proposals that work to foster cross- and extra- disciplinary research connections, and are happy to offer joint sponsorship as appropriate with other research groups.

Please take note of the guidelines for session proposals and conference participation, including the updated limits on individual participation.

Please submit your expressions of interest for RadGeo sponsorship by COB on Wednesday 5th March 2025 using the Radical Geography Research Group Call for Session Sponsorship Google form.
