History and Philosophy of Geography Research Group
The History and Philosophy of Geography Research Group (HPGRG) invites applications to sponsor sessions at this year’s RGS-IBG Annual Conference.
Sessions should address topics relating to contemporary philosophies, theories and methods related to geography and/or the history and philosophy of geography and associated fields. Given the theme of the conference this year, we particularly welcome proposals for sessions that use creative or innovative formats.
The RGS-IBG Annual Conference 2025 will take place from Tuesday 26 August to Friday 29 August 2025 at the University of Birmingham and online. The 2025 Conference Chair is Professor Patricia Noxolo (University of Birmingham, UK) and the conference theme is Geographies of Creativity/Creative Geographies. For more details, see our annual conference pages.
Please submit your session proposals for sponsorship to Peter Martin at peter.martin1@nottingham.ac.uk by Friday 24 January 2025.
The proposal should include:
- Title of session
- Name, affiliation, and contact details for session convenors
- Session abstract (up to 300 words)
- How many sessions you are applying for sponsorship for (max. 2)
- Whether you wish to apply for co-sponsorship with another RGS-IBG research group
- Format of the session. To learn more about conference session formats, please see our session formats guidance.
Please note that details of the individual papers in the session are not required at this point.
We will notify applicants of the committee’s decision as soon as possible afterwards, and no later than Friday 7 February 2025. Final details of the session, including details of the authors, titles and abstracts of all the papers, must be submitted to the conference organisers by Friday 7 March 2025.
Please note that any sessions sponsored by the HPGRG will require the session organisers to provide a short (200-300 word) summary of their sessions for inclusion in the HPGRG Annual Newsletter.
