Susie is a mechanical engineering PhD student at Bath University with a background in microbiology, palaeontology and astrobiology. She has a particular interest in microorganisms in extreme environments and how their adaptations can be applied to life on other planets, and hopes to one day have the opportunity to take part in polar fieldwork. As a poet, she enjoys writing about nature in her work. She is also a member of the GB wheelchair fencing team.

She has recently been selected as an analogue astronaut on Space Health Research’s Meili II analogue mission, due to take place in April 2025, which aims to simulate planetary exploration on a remote Scottish island. As someone with cerebral palsy and a stammer, she is keen to represent and advocate for disability inclusion in space exploration.
