Raphaela is a cultural scientist and water specialist who believes that local knowledge and connections are the cornerstone of meaningful exploration. Having lived, worked and travelled on five continents, she has been fortunate enough to meet inspiring people and learn from diverse cultures and perspectives.

Drawing on her WASH expertise and global experiences, Raphaela seeks out practical approaches to addressing water challenges. Recently, she has been leading the West Bengal Water Project, which focused on identifying pioneering water management initiatives in West Bengal and Sikkim. The project explored how communities adapt to shifting hydrological conditions, the innovative methods they employ to mitigate water-related risks, and whether West Bengal's water managers can serve as global exemplars. It is anchored by a network of regional partners.

Based in the foothills of the Swiss Alps, Raphaela volunteers as an outdoor educator for the German Alpine Club, encouraging the next generation of adventurers.
