Dr Loel Collins has worked in the expedition and adventure sector for over 35 years. He is a prolific author, with many books, chapters, and research articles in peer-reviewed journals to his credit. He works at Moray House, the School of Education and Sport, at the University of Edinburgh.

He is one of a few researchers investigating the specifics of coaching and guiding in the adventure and expedition sector. His primary interest lies in understanding professional judgment, decision-making, and teaching and learning in dynamic environments.

He has worked as a guide and has explored across the globe by kayak and canoe, with first descents of some of the deepest gorges in the world. More recently, he has spent time in the Canadian Tundra, the Norwegian Arctic, and Antarctica.
