Jan currently works as an entomologist for the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. As a (former) PhD student in Afrotropical pollination biology, he studied the insect-pollination system along the altitudinal gradient of Mount Cameroon.
He gained most of his field experience as a volunteering member of the NPO ‘Biodiversity Inventory for Conservation’. He studied butterflies and moths in Ethiopia, Cameroon, and DRC. Through BINCO, he can achieve an important life goal as an entomologist: help conserve and restore the natural environment. A basic knowledge of species richness is often lacking, and the smaller critters are easily overlooked, but at least as important.
