Alexander McMaster is a writer and ecologist from the Atlantic coast of Ireland. His work is featured in The Irish Times, Geographical magazine, EU Observer and RTE Radio.
As a professional diving instructor and seafarer he is involved with a number of projects on and beneath the water, most recently engaging coastal communities with the sea through workshops, exhibitions and performances that link science and the arts on the Irish Border.
He leads research and advocacy work with seagrass meadows and marine mammals in Greece, and delivers courses in scientific diving. Seeking to reflect the diverse interconnectedness of undersea environments, he collaborates with artists to enrich communication on the oceans.
With over a decade of maritime experience in the North Atlantic, Arctic and Southern Ocean, he currently works as a search and rescue leader with the civil fleet in the Central Mediterranean.
