Overview
Arcturus is a specialist travel company offering expertly tailored expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic.
With more than 40 years of experience, the organisation is recognised as one of the foremost operators working in polar environments, leading small group expeditions to some of the most remote regions on Earth.
Operating as the polar division of Far Frontiers Travel, Arcturus is led by Fiona Brijnath, whose long standing reputation and expertise in expedition travel underpin the organisation’s distinctive, highly personalised approach.
Mission and approach
Arcturus aims to deliver high quality, responsible expedition experiences that combine deep regional knowledge with careful planning and respect for fragile polar environments.
The organisation places strong emphasis on expertise and leadership, working with experienced expedition guides and polar specialists. Many of Arcturus’ itineraries are rooted in early scientific research journeys and exploratory travel, reflecting a long tradition of learning, discovery and environmental awareness.
A defining feature of Arcturus’ approach is its ability to tailor-make expeditions, adapting programmes to suit individual interests, experience levels and logistical need
What they do
Arcturus designs and delivers bespoke polar itineraries informed by decades of local research and first hand experience. As pioneers of Arctic wildlife tours, the organisation’s programmes draw on historic scientific expeditions as well as contemporary exploration.
They arrange their own land-based expeditions, often involving camping, walking, dog sledging and skiing, led by highly experienced guides with specialist knowledge of polar landscapes and wildlife. In addition, Arcturus acts as an agent for a carefully selected group of operators delivering sea-based adventure voyages in the Arctic and Antarctic.
All expeditions and voyages are supported by detailed trip dossiers, providing participants with comprehensive information in advance. Clients are also encouraged to discuss plans directly with the Arcturus team, including Fiona Brijnath and polar adviser Dr Lorraine Craig, to ensure each itinerary is carefully refined prior to departure.
Expeditions and participation ppportunities
Arcturus offers a diverse range of expedition and voyage opportunities, including:
- Land-based polar expeditions focused on wildlife, scenery and remote landscapes.
- Activities such as walking, camping, dog sledging and skiing.
- Sea-based adventure voyages in the Arctic and Antarctic, delivered in partnership with specialist operators.
What distinguishes Arcturus is its strength in tailor making itineraries. Many clients choose to extend their polar voyage with additional pre- or post-expedition travel, creating a seamless and memorable end-to-end experience.
Extensions may include destinations such as Chile, Argentina or the Galápagos for Antarctic travellers, or cultural visits to cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg for Arctic expeditions.
Through its combination of specialist leadership, bespoke planning and long-standing polar expertise, Arcturus offers expedition experiences that are both adventurous and thoughtfully designed, appealing to travellers seeking in-depth engagement with the polar regions.
