Join the South West committee for their annual forum, lecture and dinner.

Please be prompt for a 6.00pm start for the annual forum followed by the lecture.

The lecture, Painting Everest, will be given by artist, and recipient of the Society's Cherry Kearton Medal and Award, Tony Foster. Tony has made three expeditions to Nepal and Tibet to make large scale paintings on site of all three of Mount Everest's formidable faces.

He will describe the development of such an idiosyncratic concept and the practicalities of painting large-scale watercolours in sub-zero conditions at high altitudes.

Dinner will commence at 8.00pm.

About the speaker

Tony Foster FRGS is a watercolour artist based in Cornwall. For 40 years he has been an artist-explorer and environmentalist who documents wilderness landscapes worldwide through his large scale artworks created onsite. The artworks are graphite on paper and include diary excerpts, collected souvenirs, maps and talismans.

In 1994 he was elected a Fellow of RGS-IBG and in 2001 was awarded the Cherry Kearton Medal and Award for "his artistic portrayal of the world's wilderness". The Foster Museum is located in Palo Alto, California and is a private non-profit single-artist museum.

Tony's 2025-2028 exhibition showcases at the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro on 8 July.
