This lecture will explore the life of Lady Florence Baker who was sold as a slave and became the wife of Sir Samuel Baker, and together they helped to suppress the African slave trade. The lecture will be followed by an optional dinner, which requires a £10 deposit separately in advance.
David Baker will tell the story of Florence and Sam's tribulations while exploring and putting down the slave trade.
Jacki Hill-Murphy, who recreates historic journeys, has recently returned from walking parts of the trail through East Africa and will discuss her findings and share unique drone footage of some of the key sites in Uganda.
