‘Diasporic Connections’, published in Area in 1998, draws on a case study of Asian women in clothing business to ‘unravel the socio-economic consequences of variations within the Asian diaspora in the United Kingdom’.
Almost 30 years on, we revisit this classic Area paper with a webinar featuring the original authors, Irene Hardill (Northumbria University) and Parvati Raghuram (Open University), and guests Negar Elodie Behzadi (University of Bristol), Taylor Brydges (University of Technology Sydney), Monder Ram (Aston University), and Saskia Warren (University of Manchester). The event will be chaired by Area co-editor Sarah Marie Hall (University of Manchester).
Collectively we ask: what matters now? What residues, provocations, and power result from revisiting this paper? We hope to stimulate an interesting debate on where we are today in and beyond geography.
Those registering for the event will be sent a copy of the paper two weeks in advance.
