This is one of two symposium sessions. Please ensure you are booked onto both sessions.

This two-part postgraduate research symposium series, hosted by the Development Geography Research Group and the Geographies of Children, Youth and Families Research Group, will explore the linkages between colonialism and knowledge production, with a focus on children, young people and families.

It will challenge colonialism entrenched in academic spaces and build opportunities for cross-community working practices towards decolonisation.

The event aims to create an inclusive space where postgraduate researchers at every stage can receive feedback on their research while learning from others.

The two-part series will be delivered around two themes:

  • The session on ‘education as social change’ will take place on Wednesday 26 February.
  • The session on 'decolonising knowledge production in academia' will take place on Wednesday 12 March.

Postgraduate researchers (at any stage of their studies) wishing to present their research at the symposium are warmly invited to submit an abstract on one or both of the two themes.

Abstracts should be emailed to decolonial17@gmail.com by the deadline of Wednesday 29 January 2025.
