The Pando Tree is the world’s largest tree. Located in the Fishlake National Forest in Utah, this clonal aspen spans 43 hectares, weighs 6,000 tonnes and self-replicates via a vast root system that has been active for some 9,000 years. Pando is so large, it was only verified by genetic tests in 2008.
Since 2021, conservation group Friends of Pando has supported work by artists inspired to create and explore this botanical wonder. This forum will feature a few of those artists exploring the Pando Tree and the need for its care in words, images, sound, maps, clay and fabric. The panel will also feature a representative from the US Forest Service, under whose agency Pando sits.
