About

I have worked with Ordnance Survey for 24 years, starting at junior surveyor level initially. My role entails both large and small scale revisions of geospatial data using GNSS primarily. I studied surveying and building surveying at higher level.

Preferences

  • Location: Midlands
  • Availability: daytime, in person
  • Key stage: KS3 and KS4
  • Themes: GIS

Current or most recent role

My current role involves the use of GIS to manage work packages which involve the revision and maintenance of large scale geospatial data change. I have a geographic area of responsibility for which I am responsible for geospatial content.

Previous experience

I have engaged with the Inspiring the Future programme, where I have visited primary and secondary education facilities at the invite of the acting members of staff for the establishments.

Why I want to become a professional ambassador

I would like to complement my current involvement with the Inspiring the Future programme, where I am invited to schools to engage with the pupils, to outreach further within the education sector. I am enthralled with geography and would like to champion this further.

Types of activities

  • Talking about current job and career pathway
  • Attending a careers fair
  • Inspiring young people to choose geography
  • Talking about my career sector and the opportunities available; talking about what geographical skills I use at work and how geography is used in the 'real world'
  • Classroom based activities or working with small groups of students to talk about career options
