Information for executors of wills
Being an executor can feel complicated.
We have information which can help support you, including answers to questions relating to a gift that has been left to the Society.
Make a difference by leaving a gift to the Society
By choosing to leave a gift in your will you are making a huge difference and actively being part of our journey to advance geographical science and sharing understanding of our world.
Learning through geography – whether gained through formal learning or experientially through travel, fieldwork and expeditions – helps us all to be more socially and environmentally sensitive, better informed, and more responsible as citizens and employees.
Support for executors
We understand that dealing with the death of a friend, client or loved on can be a long and sometimes difficult process. Our gifts in wills team can help support you in enabling the final wishes of the person who has died.
Please contact Christine Quigley in the Development and Fundraising team with any queries you may have by phone 020 7591 3007 or by email: development@rgs.org
As a registered charity we require to receive a copy of the clause in the will that names the Society. Please send this to us along with a short note telling us the name and address of the person who has died. If they are a member of Fellow we can make sure we stop sending anything to their address.
If possible we would love to know why we were remembered in someone’s will. This is not essential but does help us to remember your loved one and the impact their gift has on our work.
How an executor can make a payment
There are two way to make a payment to the Society as part of your role as the executor of someone’s will.
Send a cheque
Please send a cheque made payable to ‘Royal Geographical Society’ to:

Make a payment to our bank account
Please contact us by phone on 020 7591 3007 so that we can provide our bank details and a reference to make sure we can easily locate your payment.
Is there anything else that we need?
As the end of the executor administration we would appreciate a copy of the Estate Accounts. These are the final accounts showing transactions that have taken place over the course of the administration.
We ask for these as we are audited and regulated as a registered charity and need to be able to show how, and why we have received an amount from any estate from which we were lucky enough to benefit.
