Earth Photo 2025 is now open for entries and we’re inviting submissions from still and moving image makers of all ages, from anywhere in the world, who have a compelling story to share about our planet.

Photography and film are among the most powerful media of our time, capable of overcoming the barriers of geographical space and human language to connect people. Today, they are more crucial than ever in shaping how we perceive, interpret, and understand the world around us.

Established in 2018 by the Society, Forestry England and Parker Harris, this year we are delighted that Travelsphere have joined the Earth Photo partnership. Travelsphere are group touring experts who are passionate about making a positive impact on local communities, with carefully crafted tours that offer authentic experiences based on deep local knowledge and expertise.

Each year, Earth Photo launches an open call, culminating in an awards ceremony, exhibitions, and a series of engaging events. For 2025, the judges are looking for still and moving images that challenge perspectives and inspire new ways of thinking about the world. We are seeking works that explore themes such as nature, people, places, forests, land and seascapes, as well as the diverse effects of, and responses to, climate change.

Earth Photo features a wide range of awards, with prizes of up to £1,000, as well as opportunities to be mentored by leading photographers and filmmakers, and residencies with prestigious organisations. All entries will be considered by an international jury of experts from the fields of photography, film, geography, and ecology, including distinguished curators, environmentalists, writers and artists.

Entrants selected for the Earth Photo 2025 shortlist will feature in the Earth Photo 2025 online gallery, and their work will be considered for inclusion in New Scientist’s weekly double-page photo spread, Aperture, and for display alongside other shortlisted works in Earth Photo exhibitions across the UK and in China.

Individuals and collectives are encouraged to submit up to 10 images, as singles or a series, that have been created within the last five years. In addition to photographs, we welcome short films between five seconds and five minutes long.

All entries should be submitted online by 5.00pm on Monday 3 March 2025. An entry fee of £15 will be charged to each entrant.
