While the days are getting shorter, our events programme is getting longer! Autumn is a busy time at the Society, and a great opportunity to discover geographical talks, discussions and exhibitions at venues across the UK.

With 12 weeks of Monday night lectures planned for members, a variety of geographical topics will be covered. Professor Laura Pulido will discuss how the 'war on woke' concept, promoted by dominant figures in the US Republican Party, is harming environmental justice movements globally.

Then, combining cutting-edge methods such as drone remote sensing and 3D laser scanning (LiDAR), Julia Tavares and Thiago Silva will address how Amazonian forests are being affected by climate change.

Later in November, former Society President, Nicholas Crane, and other experts from the in-house team, will share a selection of highlights from our Collections. Closing the autumn series will be former Prime Minister and geography graduate, Baroness May.

We also have an exciting programme of public events for you to enjoy. We’ll be opening up the building for guided tours, allowing you to delve into the stories, contexts and interpretations of the objects on display. Or join us in the Ondaatje Theatre for a series of panel discussions on topics including fashion and textiles as a means to reconnect with the planet, climate action in an age of rising populism, and child poverty in the UK today.

Our regional events also continue this autumn: hear Anne Strathie on tour as she shares the history of polar exploration in 50 objects, join the big AI debate in Newcastle, or catch an evening of microlectures in Norwich and Peterborough, among many more.

Don’t forget, you can make the most of what’s on offer this summer by becoming a member. Membership includes access to our Monday night lectures, either in-person or online, and members also receive discounts on all other event ticket prices.
